A general optimal control problem for ABS is formulated and analyzed, with the elimination of excessive slip and reduction of braking distance taken into account. Sliding mode controller is applied to an ABS system in this paper. A mathematical model is used for controller design and evaluation. Finally, the proposed control action is compared with that of a bang-bang controller. Simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed sliding mode controller.
